Big Magic By Elizabeth Gilbert ~ Inspiring Artists & Creators

Readers of all ages and walks of life have drawn inspiration and empowerment from Elizabeth Gilbert’s books for years. Now this beloved author digs deep into her own generative process to share her wisdom and unique perspective about creativity. With profound empathy and radiant generosity, she offers potent insights into the mysterious nature of inspiration. She asks us to embrace our curiosity and let go of needless suffering. She shows us how to tackle what we most love, and how to face down what we most fear. She discusses the attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives. Balancing between soulful spirituality and cheerful pragmatism, Gilbert encourages us to uncover the “strange jewels” that are hidden within each of us. Whether we are looking to write a book, make art, find new ways to address challenges in our work, embark on a dream long deferred, or simply infuse our everyday lives with more mindfulness and passion, Big Magic cracks open a world of wonder and joy.

Introduction Social Media/Website Creator for Almonte Area Artists’ Assoc.

Image

Today is my first post as Social Media/Website Creator for Almonte Area Artists’ Association. Some of you may know me, others may be getting to know me and others still may know nothing about me. My name is Corry McClure and I became a member in March 2016. I am a new artist and the idea of the AAAA appeals to me from the perspective of supporting my journey as an artist, connecting with others and taking on new endeavors to show art to new audiences. What I want by taking on this role is to support our existing group and entice new members. I want to reach out at least once per week to communicate via our website and our Facebook page. I will share interesting articles and images. I will list our events and meeting times so that they feed through our Social Media sources.  I welcome your contribution and I look forward to growing together.

Bradley Drouin, A Flintknapper – Our Guest Speaker 11 Apr

Great news, our guest speaker for our meeting 7:30 pm on 11 Apr is Bradley Drouin, a flintknapper. Here is a short intro:

“Hello. I’m Brad. I flintknapp. I’m also a full-time archaeologist living here in Almonte (on beautiful Coleman Island), and over the last decade I’ve been making arrowheads and functional knives from stone. Using methods that people did hundreds and thousands of years ago.

My handles are generally made with antler and attached with mostly natural materials such as hide glue, deer sinew and/or pine pitch (charcoal, animal fat, and pine sap). Over the years I’ve been blessed with spending a lot of time in the bush where I’ve been able to source most of my antler.”
